Yogatown 200hr Teacher Training
Fall 2018 Registration Now Open!
Runs September 14 – December 14, 2018
YOU LOVE YOGA! and whether you’ve been practicing 9 months or 9 years, you probably want to keep exploring yoga in new ways.
The Yogatown 200hr Teacher Training may be the perfect way to do that.
Whether you want to expand your practice, start a new career, or connect with your yoga family in a deeper way, teacher training is an incredible personal growth experience.
Our Unique Format
Yogatown’s teacher training is truly unique.
Our ultimate goal has always been to provide participants with the best 200 hour yoga teacher training possible. Over the years we’ve explored the best formats and environments, from long intensives to weekend-only formats, and we’ve now created a truly unique format for 2018 that will deliver the best training possible.
Training will begin with a 4 day intensive weekend. This format allows you to dive right in and connect as a group with your fellow participants and instructors. You’ll learn a great deal in this immersive weekend and it will establish a strong foundation for the rest of your training.
We’ll then move to a weekend format for 10 Saturdays spread over a 13 week period, with some full days and some half days depending on the topics.
This multi-weekend format makes the program more accessible to participants with responsibilities outside of training, and provides time for you to digest the learning between our weekend sessions. We’ve also condensed the training, rather than being spread out over many months, so you’ll experience many benefits of an intensive program.
With her extensive experience as a yoga teacher and studio owner, Tracy Billows is the ideal leader for this teacher training. However, one of Yogatown’s greatest strengths is the diversity, expertise, and experience of our teachers, so we’re also going to share their talents with you.
Throughout the training, guest teachers will support Tracy and teach you in their areas of expertise, including asana practice, teaching methodology, yoga philosophy, meditation, alignment, anatomy, and more. This combination of carefully chosen instructors and their breadth of knowledge will be integrated by your leader Tracy to deliver an incredibly valuable curriculum.
The Yogatown Teacher Training is a journey of personal growth and self discovery.
Throughout this program you will learn so much, challenge yourself, and grow in ways that you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life. You’ll also make lifelong friends and expand your yoga family.
Of course, you’ll also become a certified yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance.
To complete this program you will be required to:
- Attend all in-class training sessions (For certification, any missed sessions must be approved by Yogatown and made up through other workshops and training at the expense of the participant)
- Complete 60 yoga classes
- Teach a practicum

The Nitty Gritty Details
Meditation, Pranayama & Asana Practice
You’ll learn and explore various techniques and practices to begin to cultivate and open the mind, body and soul. You will be required to complete 60 classes outside of the scheduled meeting hours at Yogatown and assess those classes with your learned critical thinking skills.
Find out who you want to be/are as a teacher by uncovering the best teaching techniques around. Over the course of the program, you’ll learn key concepts such as the power of observation, voice control, proper language, breathing, holding space, cueing and communication amongst others. You’ll learn proper class sequencing, posture integration and planning for specific varieties of class through an exploration of different styles.
Posture Alignment & Refinement
Spend quality time examining the key postures of a safe yoga class. You’ll come out having an exceptional understanding of proper alignment, form, function, amplifications, modifications and contraindications for the postures you regularly see in Town Mix and Flow classes.
Exploring and understanding anatomy, physiology and how the body moves is critical for any student and yoga teacher alike. Working with an anatomy expert, you’ll discover how to integrate the knowledge you gain of the body with your newfound teaching skills. This module will be interactive, functional and leave you with a stronger understanding of the inner workings of your physical self.
History of Yoga
Dive into the foundation of yoga, learn where the roots of the practice you love so much originate from and how, over the years, the asana practice has evolved. Explore the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras as you begin to incorporate ancient wisdoms and teaching into your daily practice.
As you learn and develop the critical skills required to teach a safe and well-balanced yoga class through lectures, you’ll simultaneously get the opportunity to practice that hard earned teaching knowledge. You’ll spend time teaching your peers short sequences and in small groups as you begin, eventually sequencing and leading an hour long yoga class yourself.
Philosophy, Lifestyle & Ethics
Building upon your knowledge from the History of Yoga module, you’ll begin to incorporate ancient wisdoms like Ahimsa, Aparigraha, Saucha and Svadhyaya amongst others into your life. Explore studio and teaching ethics, the business of yoga and how to launch your teaching career amongst other topics throughout the entire teacher training.
