Eight years ago Alex Ure started practicing yoga while she was at university studying criminology and law. She would leave during savasana because she couldn’t stay still. Oh how times have changed for this wildly ambitious, supremely savvy yoga and meditation teacher! This year, Alex decided to go all in to pursue her passion. She left her restaurant job of 10 years and is determined to grow the meditation community in Ottawa. This woman has big goals and big heart. World, watch out!
Something you’re proud of?
I co-organized The Big Sit, a mass meditation, last summer. 90 people attended and we raised money for Warrior Yoga, a non-profit making the benefits of yoga and meditation accessible to all. Stay tuned, we’re doing again this summer in a BIG way!
What do you do to turn things around when you’re having a bad day?
Move my body. I find when I have strong emotions I need to move to get them out. I love to work out, do yoga (obvs) or go to a dance class!
What book are you reading right now?
Acid for Children, a memoir by Flea (the bassist of Red Hot Chili Peppers). Amazing story of music, life and spirituality.
What 3 words would your friends use to describe you?
Hard working, confident and spicy! Haha
If you had to pick one age to be forever what would it be and why?
Honestly, I wouldn’t pick an age. I’m excited to grow older with long gray hair, covered in tattoos!
My next meditation offering at Yogatown is a two-part restorative yoga and meditation series with Ayesha Basi in March. I would love to share my passion with you!
